Malaysia approved Elon Musk’s satellite company Starlink to operate in the country and connect remote locations.
Reuters reported, that communications minister Fahmi Fadzil said Starlink will begin operations by connecting schools and higher education establishments. The move is part of plans to connect the whole of Malaysia to connectivity, satellite companies are seen as a key asset to the strategy.
The minister added around 3% of Malaysians face challenges when trying to access the internet due to lack of infrastructure brought on by terrain obstacles.
Starlink recently gained licenses in Mongolia, Zambia, and Trinidad and Tobago.
