Hospitality ISP Varnion taps Nokia to upgrade network to PON

Varnion Technology Semesta, an Indonesian ISP focused on the hospitality sector, has tapped Nokia to upgrade its broadband network to a PON-based infrastructure.

Under a three-year agreement, Varnion will install Nokia’s Altiplano Access Controller, Lightspan MF, and Lightspan DF fiber platforms to evolve its LAN infrastructure from switch-based to PON-based.

Nokia said the PON-based solutions will enable Varnion to leverage automation and network insights to make its network more flexible, scalable and reliable. Nokia added that its Altiplano Access Controller – which automates network life-cycle management – will make Varnion’s network easier to manage.

It also promises a better broadband experience for Varnion’s customers, which include over 300 hotel chains, tourism centers, shopping malls and entertainment centers in Indonesia. Varnion also provides consumer broadband services in Jabodetabek, Java and Bali, with over 200,000 homes passed.

“We decided to replace the existing solution with Nokia’s solution to futureproof our network infrastructure and to enhance the best-in-class broadband experience for our customers,” said Varnion CEO Alexander Budiman in a statement.
