Tigo Bolivia has launched a 4G high-speed internet service offering users up to 100 Mbps.

The announcement follows the launch of 4G in Colombia in December 2013. Tigo is part of Millicom which operates in fourteen countries in Latin America and Africa.

Bolivia has more than three million internet users, with 95% going online via a mobile connection. Tigo's offer includes a strongly-promoted $50 per month service allowing multiple devices to connect via a Mifi link.

At launch, over 50% of the country's 10.5m population will be able to access the 4G service and this will increase to 70% of Bolivian people in 170 municipalities by 2018.

Commenting on the announcement, Millicom's CEO and President, Hans-Holger Albrecht, said "Today's launch of the super high-speed service in Bolivia is our latest innovation in the country following the launch of our satellite TV service there in April. It represents our commitment to transforming lives with the digital lifestyle and we hope that the people in Bolivia will enjoy its benefits over the next few years."
