The Costa Rican regulator Sutel is implementing new systems to analyse and benchmark the performance of the country’s mobile network infrastructure...

The Costa Rican regulator Sutel is implementing new systems to analyse and benchmark the performance of the country’s mobile network infrastructure. Using the Asset tool provided by Aircom, Sutel will monitor the network performance of Costa Rica’s operators to help meet its aim of deploying mobile services to 95.42 per cent of the country within five years.

By using common set of benchmarks, the solution will help ensure a fair and equal comparison across all independent networks. The measurements will then be used to inform policy decisions and ensure operators are meeting agreed quality standards.

Asset helps mobile operators around the world design, plan and optimise multi-technology radio networks. It will enable Sutel to identify and evaluate areas of poor network coverage, weak signal strength and high interference. The solution’s advanced network design capabilities can automate time-consuming tasks such as site configuration, traffic planning, network analysis, network dimensioning and parameter planning.

“Our mobile industry, while young, is growing fast,” says Mr. Glenn Fallas, Services Quality Director at Sutel. “This year, mobile penetration in Costa Rica reached 100 per cent, up from under 50 per cent in 2008. The Asset tool will allow us to continually monitor the progress being made in ensuring that reliable telecoms services are available to everyone in the country.”
