Tech giant Ericsson and operator du, from Emirates Integrated Telecommunication Company (EITC), have signed a partnership agreement to offer the Ericsson Connected Recycling platform as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The agreement was signed at the recent GITEX Global 2023 trade event and, say the partners, aims to shape a sustainable future and eliminate the environmental impact of non-electronic or non-electrical network equipment waste.

Ericsson describes Ericsson Connected Recycling as an end-to-end platform that provides comprehensive traceability and transparency, optimisation, and the possibility to monetise waste streams. It also provides powerful sustainability reporting to gain recycling insights that can help optimise operations and empower circularity.

The platform can integrate and orchestrate external data sources, store data safely and offer powerful big data management to enable insightful data visualisations and efficiency in the value chain.

Overall, says Ericsson, the platform presents an opportunity to streamline waste streams, boost recycling rates, enhance operational efficiency with real-time data insights, and reduce the environmental footprint by reducing waste generation to the benefit of recycling and circularity.

The partnership is in line with the UAE's Green Agenda 2030, which aim to increase the UAE’s GDP by 4 to 5%, increase its exports by about AED 24 to 25 billion (US$6.5 - US$6.8) and reduce the country’s emissions to less than 100 kilowatt-hours.
