ST Telemedia Global Data Centres India (STT GDC India) a leading data centre solutions provider, says it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Indian state Uttar Pradesh to help the state government carry out its plan to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) city.

The initiative, says STT GDC India, places a significant focus on fostering a robust AI ecosystem through the establishment and optimisation of cutting-edge data centres and computing infrastructure. This collaboration will help enhance Uttar Pradesh as a leader in digital innovation and a destination for digital investments.

STT GDC India says it will provide its data centres and enable the AI computing infrastructure through its partners' ecosystem. This will enable solutions for multiple sectors, startups, research institutions and governance, ultimately driving the state’s vision of achieving a US$1 trillion economy by 2027, the company adds.

Lalit Khanna, Chief Operating Officer of STT GDC India, says: “The AI city envisioned by the government of Uttar Pradesh will serve as a pioneering move to create and foster an AI ecosystem to drive innovation, and broad-based access to digital infrastructure and services, with long-term positive ramifications for the state’s economic growth."

India’s Economic Times news service says Lucknow will be the country’s first AI city.

STT GDC India has apparently already committed to the state with investments of around INR41 billion (about US$483 million) and has operationalised its first data centre park in the state in Noida. Further developments are planned.

STT GDC India says it currently manages one of the largest white space areas, with more than 318 MW of critical IT load spread across 28 facilities including facilities under development, across ten cities in India.
