Increased demand for data-hungry content will be a major trend in 2013.

Increased demand for data-hungry content will be a major trend in 2013.

**1) Hunger for instant access forces service providers to adapt**

- Consumers’ appetite for high quality content on-the-go will force wireless providers to scale networks using mass small-cell deployments, improve devices’ transition from cell networks to Wi-Fi hotspots and implementation of high-speed 4G/LTE.

**2) Dynamic, self-aware networks take hold**

- Skyrocketing activity in both core and edge networks will require better ways to monitor traffic and troubleshoot issues. Next-generation solutions will give network operators live feeds into end users’ service quality to quickly pinpoint customer problems, such as jittery video display. The operator can then efficiently resolve the issues remotely. Self-aware networks that automatically prioritize traffic will also facilitate the delivery of bandwidth intensive applications like streaming HD video to facilitate new revenue opportunities for providers.

**3) Service providers offer reliability for the cloud**

- Since many cloud-storage and SaaS services rely on the public Internet for transmitting data, service providers will need to connect their data centers around the globe to push information to the edge for faster, more reliable delivery. Physically disparate data centers will require ubiquitous network visibility to troubleshoot issues quickly and reduce downtime.
