Mexico’s telecoms workers union rejected the latest proposals offered by operator Telmex to resolve strike action, potentially continuing the long-running industrial action against the operator, reported Reuters.

Telmex tabled a new offer which offers retiring workers bonuses, following weeks of negotiations between both parties after industrial action began with a [two-day strike in July](https://developingtelecoms.com/telecom-business/operator-news/13778-telmex-faces-strike-action.html).

The offer proposed workers that join Telmex after October 1 will receive an annual December bonus upon retirement equivalent to 10 days of pay, plus a 10-day bonus in August. The latter bonus was not stated as an annual payment, the proposal did not add further details on the payouts.

Telmex, which is a subsidiary of Carlos Slim-owned America Movil, stated new hires will get a pension worth 100% of final net pay which is eligible after 35 years of work when turning 65 (depending on job category).

The Mexican Telephone Workers Union, known by its Spanish acronym STRM will meet on Wednesday to decide the next course of action.

STRM has 60,000 active and retired members that began a day strike in July, the first industrial action in four decades after negotiations to raise salaries, fill vacancies and improve benefits for new staff was not met.
